Delroy Lindo – Sinners

What’s the Role?
Lindo plays Delta Slim, a musical legend (primarily as a harmonica player). He drinks, he jukes, and he gives some of the more compelling monologues in the film.
Should He Win?
Yeah. Lindo’s had a rough, honestly disrespectful press journey during award season (we’ll not link to the most problematic example, but being asked by some bullshit influencer what it’s like to “be an emerging artist” when he’s been crushing it for years definitely was something we didn’t care for).
Will He Win?
Likely no. It would be a great upset if he pulled it off- he definitely deserves it, but he’s not really won the big awards (frankly, his nomination came off as a bit of a surprise). We’d love to see it,
Jacob Elordi – Frankenstein

What’s the Role?
THE CREATURE! But truly, wasn’t Frankenstein the TRUE creature *gets pelted for a 20 year old dad joke*. But yeah, it’s Frankenstein. But it’s a monster movie by Bencio Del Toro. You know there’s weird sex stuff happening.
Should He Win?
Like, sure? Maybe no? He lost a lot of his good will for this by following up with the disastrous Wuthering Heights.
Will He Win?
We’re leaning towards no. He won the Critic’s Choice Award, and was a heavy favorite early, but has seemed to lost a lot of steam to the next actor on this list.
Stellan Skarsgård – Sentimental Value

What’s the Role?
Gustav Borg, an acclaimed director whose career is on the decline, but who tries to find critical acclaim again by making a movie he wrote about his mother’s holocaust experience and subsequent suicide. Oh, and there’s a lot of daddy-daughter issues to navigate. Upbeat stuff.
Should He Win?
Yes. He’s great in his performance, has a long, storied career that makes you say “wait this is only his FIRST Oscar nomination?” and genuinely deserves a statue.
Will He Win?
We’re saying yes. He won the Golden Globes and has a lot of momentum behind them, along with being a career actor that the Academy will think is worth the prize.
Benicio Del Toro – One Battle After Another

What’s the Role?
Sergio St. Carlos, the sensei to the protaganist’s daughter who runs an undocumented community and helps immigrants evacuate through a secret passage.
Should He Win?
Not really. It was a fairly decent year, and he’s won before. Great performance, but there are other more worthy this year.
Will He Win?
Nope. He’s not really in the conversation. He’s already won an Oscar, and him and Sean Penn will likely split the vote.
Sean Penn – One Battle After Another

What’s the Role?
Should He Win?
Not really. Penn puts on a great performance, but it probably was in the middle of the performers here.
Will He Win?
No. He had a lot of buzz when the movie came out but has been lacking award success building up to the big day. Plus, he’s won twice, and it takes a lot for a third
